ABOUT

„It's the instant that attracts me, the moment of expression, the pure joy of playing, the full confidence in the music, the lyrics and my Intuition.““

Growing up in a family of musicians, the Swiss soprano Selina Maria Batliner started playing the flute and piano at a young age, before she found her true calling in singing. 2011 she started her bachelor of Arts in singing, at the "Hochschule der Künste Bern" in Bern with prof. Hans Peter Blochwitz. After graduating with distinction in year 2015, she continued her singing education with prof. Malin Hartelius in a Master of Pedagogy at the HKB from which she graduated, again with distinction in summer 2019.

In 2013 Selina Maria Batliner has won a scholarship from the Friedl Wald Foundation and took part in several master classes of Hans Peter Blochwitz, Capucine Chiaudani, Malin Hartelius and Tatiana Korsunskaya.

In 2018 Selina had the chance to take part in an orchestra project with conductor Graziella Contratto, where she performed three songs of „Des Knaben Wunderhorn“ from Gustav Mahler. As a part of that project she got to record these songs in the SRF Radiostudio Zürich. The CD was published in spring 2019 by the label „claves records“.

Her repertoire includes songs and Arias from the Renaissance until today with a focus on romantic music and music written around the turn of the century (19th/20th). For some time now, french and german chansons and Broadway-Reptertoire widen her singing experience and she is interested in crossover-projects, different music styles and in growing her musical horizon.

2019 she performed at the Open Air Moosegg in the production of „Schwarzwaldmädel“ and at the Opera Festival Munot singing competition she won the role of the 2. Dame in their „magic flute“ production 2020 (postponed). Also she won a prize at the Dienemann-Liedcontest in 2020. In spite of the pandemic she could 2021 perform in several settings, such as with the Philharmonie Jena, the BKO and the OPUS orchestra Bern and founded her own Trio „ScHerz“ with colleague and tenor Michael Mogl and the pianist Monika Nagy. Their first operetta-program „Heut’ Abend lad’ ich mir die Liebe ein“ has premiered and is ready to be booked.

Having studied singing pedagogy, she is teaching now at the music school Bantiger, working with several choirs as a vocal coach and also takes part in music mediation projects, for example 2019, 2022, 2023 at the Opera Zürich, where she sung and worked, together with Felicitas Erb in their introduction workshops for school classes for their opera production «Coraline», «Alice in Wonderland» and «Jim Knopf» or in 2021/22 in the „Kulturdorf für Junge“. Since 2024 she is a member of the board of the association «Musikvermittlung Schweiz».

For the first time in «Lou Ziffer» in Düdingen 2023 and «Chez Rosmarie» in Bolligen she was responsable for the stage directing.

In January 2024 she published her first album with original music and book with texts and poetry «All the Way». In 2024 she was also responsable for the choir compositions in the production «Bärner Gringe» for the «Freilichtspiele Ballenberg».

„ The diversity of the human voice always fascinated me and after my vocal studies I pursued singing in a broad field of styles and continually educate myself and my voice to do so. “

Her voice is great for Concert- and Liedrepertoire and contents works of composers from Bach to Jenkins, as well as Mahler, Schumann, Schubert, Wolf, Zemlinksy, Strauss, Schoeck, Schönberg, Brahms, Fauré, Britten, Dowland and more.

// Chanson

For many years now Selina has been fascinated by the musical world of the French chansons and the old German songs from the 20ies to the 50ies (and sometimes later). This kind of music is full of emotions and passion, humour and satire, and many of these songs were written by great composers.
Together with a fellow student Lea Gasser (accordion) she started singing and performing this repertoire back in 2013, later on together with the fantastic accordion player Kalle Moberg and of course including several pianists.
Her repertoire holds songs and chansons from many different composers, for example Kurt Weill, Friedrich Holländer, Hans Fritz Beckmann, Michael Jary etc. - songs which where sung by famous singers such as Lotte Lenya, Marlene Dietrich, Zarah Leander, Edith Piaf and more.

It would be her pleasure to sing at your event, if it is a full evening program, a wedding ceremony or a musical intermezzo for your event of choice. Please feel free to contact her.

// Trio ScHerz

Founded in 2021 the Trio ScHerz loves to perform operetta repertoire from the 1930ies and 40ies. Sensitive and creative interpretation that goes deeper than just to serve the pure „entertainment“ purpose is very important for them.

In love not everything is always going as planned. Swaying between phantasy and reality the two characters Freddy and Emma are searching for their own way. Embedded in operetta melodies of the 1930ies, they struggle with their feelings and the big questions to love, life and the other. Who says, that operetta cannot also be deep?

Their current, evening filling entertainment program: „Heut’ Abend lad’ ich mir die Liebe ein“

It is their pleasure to sing at your event, nevermind if it is a full evening program, a wedding ceremony or a musical intermezzo for your event of choice. Please feel free to contact them, on request they might as well sing other music out of the opera and entertainment repertoire for you.

// Stella Maria

Under the name «Stella Maria» Selina Maria Batliner is writing and publishing her original music.

«All the Way» is an intercultural, interstylistic music & text production, grown from the encounter of the poet Ramazan Rahimi born in Afghanistan and the singer Selina Maria Batliner born in Switzerland. They took the time to talk about their lives, upbringing, feelings, childhood and their questions about societies and the future.

The songs and some poems that were created in that process were then collectively arranged and interpreted by experienced musicians with stylistic origins in the Jazz and classical music world.

Texts from both Selina Maria and Ramazan accompany the project and have been published in an accompanying book alongside the album in January 2024.

// Intercultural Choir Worb

When we sing in the collective accommodation in Worb, a very special kind of polyphony is created. Some have never heard their voice sung before, others have been singing for a long time and have grown up with various harmonic and rhythmic imprints. Together we sing songs in different languages, do exercises from theatre and vocal pedagogy, listen to each other and try our hand at various dances. Regular performances in the region give us motivation and visibility. As we don't know what tomorrow will bring and don't know the others' yesterdays, the moment of encounter remains central. The focus is on the music and a shared ‘now’. Our intergenerational and intercultural choir brings together people from the region Worb. Beyond language barriers, we communicate with our bodies, eyes and voices and learn to understand each other. Every rehearsal is different.

You can join at any time and don't need any previous experience, what's important is an openness to encounters and spontaneity.
